Some serious fudging in the hands and arms, but this started out as a key in a pencil test. The test failed.

...because you can never get enough!

And a detail shot to show off the dry oil-brush I "created" in TVPaint. I love this program!

Character studies

I'm trying to develop a repertoire of characters that I can draw upon at any time, simply so that I'll have something to animate for the sake of animating. These will be throwaway pencil tests serving only to improve my animation skills, because I haven't created any actual animation in a long damn time.

I should probably go with simpler designs, but more often than not, when I aim for simple, I end up with boring, and boredom is the enemy of everything.

An eccentric, old fisherman:

Alice in Nebulous White Paper-land:

If it isn't obvious enough, the middle Alice is an older, more sedentary Alice who was thrown into a catatonic state following blunt force trauma at the hands of her abusive, alcoholic husband.

And Tarzan...?

Early character concept

I've only just started on character designs for my thesis film, but the task has already proven to be a formidable one. It's this strange cycle of loosening up, then tightening the drawings (ideally tightening up my sorely inadequate drawing skills at the same time), and then loosening up again. It's really tough finding a style that balances realism, design, and functionality. Back to the drawing board.

Vol de l'Amour, again

Vol de l'Amour was rejected by OIAF'09 (no big surprise really), so I've put it back up on Vimeo. Was Vimeo compression always this bad?
